Pop-Up Studio Artists up for ZAFAA Awards

We were overjoyed to learn that two of our 2023 Pop-Up Studio Artists are finalists in the Zonta Ashburton Female Art Awards 2024 (ZAFAA). Anna Heasley and Suzanne McDonnell were both resident artists at Pop-Up Studio 2023. As part of the residency, we provided professional development talks and workshops, supporting the artists to develop their vision, set goals and increase confidence.
Anna told us, “I wanted to have a go at ZAFAA. It’s funny how one thing leads to another; if I hadn’t joined Pop-Up Studio I wouldn’t have had the time or been brave enough to enter. Oxford has such a cool little gallery.”
From the Ashburton Art Gallery website:
“The Zonta Ashburton Female Art Awards (ZAFAA) return to the Ashburton Art Gallery for the eighth year. With 85 entries the judges had a tough decision in selecting the finalists. Of 61 finalists, 35 artists qualify for the Premier Award and 26 are eligible for the Young Generation Award for female artists between the ages of 16-20.
“ZAFAA seeks to raise the status of female visual artists and to acknowledge the contribution women make to the greater art discourse. The award is aligned with the values of Zonta International, which exists to advance the status of woman worldwide through service and advocacy.”
We expect Suzanne and Anna will gain so much experience through ZAFAA and can’t wait to see what they do next. Congratulations 💚
